The Dancing Sandhill Crane

The sandhill crane is a beautiful bird, whether in flight or standing. It can vary in color from different shades of gray to an overall gray color with shades of umber and sienna earth tones. I am painting this one with a variety of earth tones, using a very basic palette. It is important to have lots of reference photos and decide what your palette will be before you start. Remember to always paint with thin washes and build up the color gradually. A good wash consists of 80% thinner and 20% paint.
