Decoy carvers today have all sorts of carving tools: laser-cut or hammer-forged carving knives, Foredom rotary carvers, micro-motors., feather burning tools, and so forth. When it comes to painting, the options are equally broad. We have acrylics, oils, and urethanes plus all sorts of fillers, sealers, and finishing varnishes. Many put aside their brushes and use airbrushes and stencils for just about every feather on a fowl. Today’s tools and paints speed up productivity while still helping us make fairly durable, usable decoys.
