The Walls Have Eyes Part Two: Painting
How to add a little hide and seek with paint.
Tom Baldwin is an award-winning wildfowl carving artist. He won the M & T Printing purchase award at the Canadian National Wildfowl Carving Championship in 2013, and back-to-back best in shows at the Wings and Water Festival in 2010 and 2011. In 2014 he received an award of excellence at the Kaleidoscope annual show. Tom lives in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, with his wife, Barbara, and their two dogs. In the Fall 2016 issue, I took you through the step-by-step tutorial on how to carve this wall-hanging project. Part two will show you how I handled the painting part of this carving. I will use acrylic paint for the most part. The brushes I use, with the exception of a couple liners, will be mostly worn down. That’s because I grind the brush on the carving a lot for this painting process.
You will need the following colors: titanium white, sable, cadmium orange hue, quinacridone gold, raw umber, burnt umber, and black.
