No Fooling!

By: Tom Huntington

When I was a kid there was a commercial on TV where Mother Nature gets tricked into thinking the margarine she tastes was real butter. Told the truth, she becomes wrathful. “It’s not nice to fool Mother Nature,” she says and whips up a storm.

It seems like someone has been feeding Mother Nature a lot of margarine lately, and some of our carver friends have felt her anger. The wildfires that rage in California as I type this are truly terrifying, and Hurricane Florence put a lot of North Carolina under water when it stormed ashore in September. I understand the Core Sound Heritage Museum in Harkers Island suffered extensive damage, although I was happy to learn that the town’s elementary school, which provides the venue for the Core Sound Decoy Show every year, emerged relatively unscathed and that the show would happen as scheduled in December. As the man says, the show must go on.
