Bewick’s Wren

Bewicks Wren
The name of the Bewick’s wren (Thryomanes bewickii) is pronounced just like the car: Buick. The bird is described as slenderer than the Carolina wren, with a longer tail that flicks up and down and side to side. The white edge of the outer tail feather and the white or off-white eye stripe (supercillium) separate it from the house wren. There are also some subtle regional differences in plumage color: in the southwest region, the bird is described as grayish while eastern birds are more reddish. In some areas, Bewick’s wren populations have declined in due to the decrease in woodland habitats.
