Competition 1990
Competition 1990 continued to expand the coverage of the competitive world by adding shows to the publication's lineup. The new arrivals included the California Open in San Diego and the Birds in Art juried exhibition at the Leigh Yawkey Woodsen Art Museum in Wausau, Wisconsin. These two shows continued to appear in Competition for years to come. Other shows that were new to Competition's pages were the second annual Dremel/Ducks Unlimited Masters Carving Competition, which took place in Racine, Wisconsin, and the Chinook Carvers Competition in Calgary, Alberta. It also featured work by carvers who would become familiar names, among them Larry Barth and Bob Guge.
In an article called "The Inside Story," Don McKinlay provided a primer on what to expect when entering birds into competition. "Taking the first step and deciding to enter a competition is a hard one," he wrote. "In the end, though, competitions are well worth facing the intimidation."
