ODCCA Celebrates its 40th in Strongsville

Above: Pat Godin swept the open level for IWCA-style decoys.

The Ohio Decoy Collectors and Carvers Association celebrated its 40th annual show in its usual grand style on March 11-12, 2017, with a weekend devoted to all things decoy—with a slew of fish and other wildfowl carvings to add flavor. The setting, once again, was the Holiday Inn in Strongsville, Ohio. The show took over the hotel’s ballroom, which filled with vendors, competitors, and spectators. The show also commandeered the hotel pool on Sunday and filled it with decoys. On Friday morning, Master Carver Tom Christie presented a seminar on feather layout and painting. The Ky Kraus Memorial auction took place on Saturday night, and in-room selling took place throughout the hotel over the entire weekend. In addition, there were carving and painting contests throughout the weekend, and Willie McDonald of the Duck Blind conducted demonstrations in the ballroom.

Of course, Wildfowl Carving Magazine was present, with editor Tom Huntington offering two tables full of back issues, copies of Competition 2016, and a variety of books. Photographer Bruce Richert was on hand to shoot the winning entries. His photos will appear in Competition 2017 next year.

Here’s a list of winners provided by the ODCCA. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make this one of the best carving shows around!
