Blue-gray Tanager

Blue and gray? Sounds more like the Civil War than a songbird.

Blue-gray Tanager

The blue-gray tanager (Thraupis episcopus) is a small to medium songbird that measures between six and seven inches in length. It has a light blue head and underparts with darker blue upper parts and a bright blue shoulder patch. The bill is small but thick. The blue-gray tanager is usually seen in pairs or small groups but it does not migrate in flocks. This tanager is a South American songbird but it has been seen in eastern Canada, Florida, and Mexico.
